Maintaining a Positive Mindset during Covid-19

Here we go… Covid-19 home schooling and juggling work from home.  While everyone’s day looks different, we are all feeling the pressure of keeping things together on the home front.  Whether we are working or not, we all have our own frustrations at life being put on hold.

Below are my five tops tips which will help me get through home schooling – and I hope they help you too.

·      Put a routine in place

·      Prioritise a small amount of self care

·      Look ahead and be prepared

·      Don’t sweat the small stuff

·      Be kind to yourself

In order to keep calm and organised, a routine can help immensely.  As an Online Mindset Coach based in Melbourne, this is something I find truly valuable, and always work on with my clients. A routine helps with an organised and positive mindset. From the moment you wake up, you know what is ahead of you for the day, and you can compartmentalise sections of your day, which will help you get through your tasks, while still putting aside time to look after your children. Put aside time for housework, kids, food, work, all the responsibilities.  I have some tips to a good morning routine here.

Make time for yourself.  If this means getting up early, then do it.  Be proactive to make sure you have this time – if it means rejigging your schedule or normal routine, then so be it.  The trade off is you will be looking after yourself and having time for YOU – which will mean you are a happier version of yourself than if you give up that self care.  Spend some time calming and refreshing your mindset.

Be prepared. As much as we’d like to put our heads in the sand and pretend Covid-19 isn’t happening, it really does plan ahead and be prepared.  Print out timetables, make snacks first up,  – not just when required – and know what classes and breaks are on and when.  Tidy and organise as you go, to keep on top of things. Try to think ahead so that you’re not caught out, which will only set off your stress levels.

Don’t sweat the small stuff.  I mean it!  Walk away and let it go, if really, in the overall bigger picture, it is insignificant.  A class project, kids eating all their lunch…whatever it is that sets your anxiety levels on high.  Breath, and let it go.  Its not worth getting upset about it – its better to keep the peace and move on.  Sometimes.

Be kind to yourself.   This is important.  No one in our life has lived through Covid-19 and we are all learning on the spot.  We don’t need to be perfect.   And remember, this isn’t forever.
